Poule de Pic Blanc - AOP Picpoul de Pinet
Cocoriko Rouge - IGP Côtes de Thau
The DOMAINE LA GRANGETTE, in the village of Castelnau de Guers, is in the heart of the PICPOUL DE PINET appellation zone and extends over 30 hectares. Wine has been produced on the property since XVII th century.
The appellation Picpoul de Pinet is only awarded to white wines made from the varietal PIquepoul blanc.
Vignerons Matthieu and Christelle Moret-Caron, practise a sustainable viticulture, with low yields to obtain a maximum aromatic concentration.
Their Picpoul de Pinet 2016 “Poule de Pic” is a fresh and balanced wine very typical of the appellation.
We have also selected their Red 2018 “Cocoriko” produced under the appellation Côtes de Thau and made with the rare Picquepoul Noir grape variety.
Picpoul de Pinet
The Picpoul de Pinet terroir consists of a triangle bounded by Agde, Pézenas and Sète west of the Thau lagoon along the Mediterranean Golfe de Lyon.
The ancient Roman "Via Domitia" runs right through the area, dividing it into two distinctive terroirs:
To the north: Glades of garrigue, pines and vines alternate with limestone outcrops.
To the south: Flatter land consisting of weathered, sandy stones crisscrossed with deep furrows and low hills, sweeps straight to the sea.
The weather pattern is typically Mediterranean with low rainfall and moderate winters. Summers are dry.
Sea breezes limit high daytime temperatures; the water in the lagoon protects the land from steep night-time temperatures.
